City of Detroit Food Resources

 The Parks and Recreation Division of the General Service Department participates in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) 

This program provides a FREE nutritious supper for children 18 and under, participating in varied after-school programs at the recreation centers. Meals are offered at the following locations from 4:30pm to 6:30pm: 

  • Adams Butzel Center, 10500 Lyndon – Monday through Friday

  • Farwell Recreation Center, 2711 E. Outer Dr., Wednesday and Friday

  • Kemeny Recreation Center, 2260 S. Fort St., Monday through Friday

  • Racquet Up, 6530 W. Outer Dr. – Monday through Thursday

  • Patton Recreation Center, 2301 Woodmere, Monday through Friday, except Wednesday.

These are congregated meals and children are required to eat them at the recreation sites. There is no pick-up option for parents or children. 

Meals for Seniors 

The Detroit Area Agency on Aging, Area 1B (DAAA) is providing a 5pack of frozen meals for seniors 60 and up on Wednesdays. There is a limited number of meals and they are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.  Farwell Recreation Center serves hot meals during the week, however, a small donation is requested. These are congregated meals that are eaten at the site.  Frozen meals are offered at the following locations: 

  • Adams Butzel Recreation, 10500 Lyndon, 11:30am – 1:00pm

  • Butzel Family Center, 7737 Kercheval, 11:00am – 12:30pm

  • Patton Recreation Center, 2301 Woodmere, 11:30am – 1:00pm

  • Joseph Walker Williams Recreation Center, 8431 Rosa Parks Blvd., 11:30am – 1:00pm

  • The frozen meals are distributed as a pick-up and may be taken off-site.

Gleaners Groceries 

The Northwest Activities Center distributes groceries every other Monday from 2:00pm – 4:00pm.

Focus HOPE: Food For Seniors

In partnership with federal and state agencies, we provide over 42,000 seniors with monthly food packages to help meet basic needs. We also provide opportunities to obtain health screenings, income support, tax preparation and utility assistance. Focus: HOPE provides food boxes to senior citizens who are 60 years old or older and reside in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb or Washtenaw counties. To Apply, call 313.494.4600 or email: food@focushope.edu.

If you are in need of food, Gleaners provide a map on their website where you can find the closest food pantry, mobile drive-thru food distributions, or soup kitchens near your area.

DOT’s Market

Dot's offers fresh, high-quality produce to Detroit's neighborhoods through our weekly produce box service. Every Friday, we deliver our nutritious, delicious, and affordable #DotsProduceBox containing a curated selection of fresh fruits and vegetables that varies weekly, highlighting the season's best produce.

Know someone in need of fresh food? Please message us!

DOT's packs and delivers fresh produce boxes to our neighbors in need every Saturday. To date, we've donated over 3000 lbs of good food to good people. Message us to get on the distribution list if you know someone in need. If you'd like to help with the effort, we also accept donations and volunteers!

My Father’s Business - Grace Community Church

Welcome to My Father’s Business! We are glad to be able to assist you during this season of need you are experiencing. It is our prayer that you will encounter the love and truth of Jesus and that we can be a blessing to you in your current circumstances.

The Schedule

Arrive at Grace Community Church between 9 and 11:30 AM and come to the door facing Kingsville. You will receive a number from one of the gentlemen stationed at that entrance. Please do not bring children.

The doors will open at 9:30 AM and you will be directed where to go to sign in and wait to meet with an intake counselor. They will review your needs and determine if you meet the guidelines to receive assistance from MFB.

 After that, you will be able to shop for the items you need. You may have to wait a bit, so please be patient—they will get to you as soon as possible.
